“I’m so happy that I’ve got my place booked in Dubai. When I teed off last week at the Spanish Open, I knew that I needed probably at least a second on my own to have a chance.”
Hatton also mentioned that he couldn’t attend World No. 29 Matt Fitzpatrick’s wedding due to the 2024 Spanish Open.
“Actually, I was meant to be going to Fitzy’s wedding the week in Spain, and I messaged him a few weeks ago and I was like, if I don’t have enough points, I might not be able to go and I felt so bad about that. I guess having a little extra motivation to play well.”
Fitzpatrick got married to his long-time partner, Katherine Gaal, in the same week as the Spanish Open. The couple had gotten engaged last year.
“I’m at a loss for words,” – Tyrrell Hatton on becoming the first golfer to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship thrice
British golfer Tyrrell Hatton became the first player to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship thrice after his victory at the Old Course on Sunday. However, this remarkable achievement isn’t the only reason this victory holds a special place for Hatton
“It feels good. This is the first time I’ve actually won the tournament with my dad here. So it means a lot. And yeah, to do it on the Home of Golf is really special. Hard to describe to be honest. I’m at a loss for words,” he said.
The 32-year-old had an intense playoff with Belgian golfer Nicolas Colsaerts before winning 24-under. Hatton is now ranked fifth in the European team, and the victory in Scotland has kept his Ryder Cup hopes alive.
