Sergio Garcia reveals decision to axe his Spanish LIV Golf teammate

Captain Sergio Garcia revealed that his Fireballs GC teammate Eugenio Chacarra would be leaving the group. Chacarra joined LIV Golf in 2022 and has been an integral part of the Garcia-led side since 2023.

Chacarra finished 32nd in 2023 and 39th in the 2024 season. Chacarra had only one top-10 finish this year. In an interview with Golf Magic, Sergio Garcia was asked if Fireballs GC would be the same team or would see any changes. He said (via Golf Magic):

“For the most part it’s going to be pretty much the same team, but there is going to be one new player. Unfortunately, Eugenio Chacarra finished outside the top 24 and his contract is up. We are very thankful for everything he’s done this last two and half, three years. But we want to see if we can get someone new, a little bit of a different profile kind of player.”

Fireballs GC comprised Sergio Garcia, Eugenio Chacarra, Abraham Ancer and David Puig in the 2024 season. Garcia finished third, Ancer finished 12th and Puig finished 26th in LIV Golf individual standings of the season. Garcia further said:
“We are working on it and hopefully we’ll have something before the year ends. It’s exciting to look at different options and looking at someone who could make the team better in every aspect. I think that’s the end game, to make the team better as LIV Golf moves forwards. Sometimes you have to make little changes here and there I guess.”
When asked who the player was, Garcia said that the team doesn’t yet have the player and that he wished he could reveal who it was, but added that it was still a work in progress. Fireballs GC finished sixth both in the 2023 season and 2024 season. They had finished third in the inaugural LIV season in 2022.
