World No.1 Novak Djokovic says tennis needs to innovate, but the possibility of a Rebel Tour remains to be seen.
Rumors are growing that a LIV Golf-style elite tennis tour could be launched as early as 2025, competing with the ATP Tour and his WTA Tour.
Saudi-backed leagues spending billions on the world’s best tennis players may be difficult for them to resist.
Djokovic stressed that he does not know what is happening behind the scenes and has only heard some rumors about what will happen in the future.
But the reigning men’s Australian Open champion would like to see some changes across the tennis world to attract younger fans.
``I Am'' I am a big believer in our history and our traditions and all the big things.
I think we should always maintain that because we are supporters.
“But I think we have to adapt to modern times, understand what the young audience wants and play tennis for them.
” Adding to the group’s appeal.
” “Here’s the synopsis.
And [regarding the Rebel Tour story], for me, I don’t know what kind of Elite Tour you’re talking about.
“I’ve heard rumors, but it’s still early days.
I think it’s still a stage and we don’t see anything concrete yet.
” Women’s World No.5 Jessica Pegula believes it’s only a matter of time before the Rebel Tour begins .
“To be honest, I don’t think it’s inevitable,” said the American.
“There are so many stories.
It seems like this situation has been going on for about a year.
“Money is important and they have infinite money and they seem to be involved in every sport in the world except ours, so I feel like that’s going to happen someday.
LIV Golf’s launch has been controversial, with some critics calling it “sportswash” aimed at distracting from Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.
The 4,444 players who participated in this renegade golf tour were initially banned from the PGA Tour and European Tour.
ATP world No.10 Taylor Fritz thinks the same thing could happen in tennis.
“If that happens, I think the biggest question mark is whether you’re going to be on this tour and whether you’re still going to be able to play in slams,” Fritz said.
“Let’s see what happens.
Until we see how they structure the tour and what it’s going to be like, we won’t know if it’s a good thing or not.
I think there are a lot of things that can be improved in the way the tour is run right now.
