Keegan Bradley’s two-word text to his caddie that convinced he was getting fired
OK, so technically, it sounds like it was more than a two-word text from Keegan Bradley that made caddie Scott Vail think he was getting fired. But when you start a text with CALL ME, those are the only two words a person focuses on.
That’s exactly what happened back in July when Bradley was as shocked as anyone to be named the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain. Apparently, he got that call from the PGA of America pretty early, because, of course, he wanted to share the news with his caddie, but didn’t want to wake him up with a phone call.

So it makes sense that Keegan typed out a text. It’s just that the way he did it initially had Vail thinking bad news was coming. Here’s Vail describing the situation on the latest episode of Golf’s Subpar Podcast:

“I got up at 7 a.m. and I had a text already from him,” Vail says in the clip. “Well, the text said ‘Call me. I need to speak to you.’ And I’m like, Oh, what did I do? What did I do last week that’s getting me fired today? What did I do?”
We don’t blame you, Scott. There are few things in life dreaded more than a “Call me” text. A.) You immediately think the worst. B.) Who wants to actually talk on the phone these days?
In any event, obviously, this turned out to be a good thing. Vail is still Keegan’s caddie and after helping his boss and the Americans win the Presidents Cup last month, now he’s got a Ryder Cup to get prepared for next year.
“I was shocked at first and then I was, like, emotional,” Vail continued. “Like I was almost crying because I know how much it means to him, how much not being on the team last year meant to him. It was just like this whirlwind of emotion.”
Good stuff. After such disappointment last year, hopefully, the Netflix crew captured some of this scene as well.
