“He cooked everyone so badly”: Fans react to Max Verstappen addressing Johnny Herbert’s comment
F1 fans expressed their amusement after Red Bull driver Max Verstappen addressed former F1 driver and pundit Johnny Herbert’s comments regarding the language used by the three-time champion. The former Sky Sports pundit was critical of the Dutch driver for his on and off-track behavior.
After Singapore GP, Herbert claimed that he would not want his five-year-old to see Verstappen’s press conference, given the latter used a curse while describing his car. Being one of the race stewards in Mexico, the former race winner gave two separate 10-second penalties to the Red Bull driver for his on-track battle against McLaren driver Lando Norris.
Speaking with Formule1, Max Verstappen mentioned Johnny Herbert’s comments while addressing his foul language row and brought up the Brit’s silence when Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc used a curse word in Mexico:
“He immediately had a very strong opinion that what I had said in the press conference was not suitable for five-year-olds. But after the press conference in Mexico, I heard nothing, maybe those five-year-olds were asleep [when Charles Leclerc swore in the press conference],” Verstappen said.
“It is fairly abnormal for Herbert to speak out like that. Whether I occasionally feel that my back is against the wall? No. And if there was already a wall, we break it down. It’s fine that everything I do is highlighted,” he added (Translated from Dutch).
F1 fans took to social media to give their reactions to Max Verstappen’s comments on X, with one fan claiming:
“He cooked everyone so badly in today pc man.”
“Max makes a fair point about differing opinions in the sport. It’s interesting to see how drivers express themselves, and not everyone will agree. At the end of the day, it’s all part of the competitive nature of #F1,” another fan added.
It’s awesome to hear him point out the enormous hypocrisy of Johnny Herbert. Now he just needs to boycott talking to all the morons. If they want to talk to him, only send Natalie or Anthony. The only 2 objective ones of the bunch,” a fan said.
“The way this guy relentlessly cooks anyone every single time they talk shit about him is crazy,” another user said another.
“Herbert being allowed to be a steward is madness,” a fan claimed
Max Verstappen gives his take on the racing guidelines
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen said that the racing guidelines were not “straightforward” and believed that having more racing guidelines wasn’t the way forward as any changes in the guidelines would always leave something to be desired.
Speaking in the pre-race press conference ahead of the Brazil GP, the 27-year-old said:
“I think it’s not that straightforward. Clearly, even between how many seconds you get, so. I mean, like I said before, sometimes they work for you, sometimes they work against you. I think it’s never going to be perfect because even if you remove rules, then you get into a battle, then you want more rules because it’s not clear what is allowed or not. Then when you have too many rules, you want fewer rules. It just keeps on going left and right all the time,” he said.
Max Verstappen was given two points on the FIA Super license after his 20-second penalty in Mexico, which took his tally to six penalty points this year.
