Dustin Johnson Terminates LIV Golf Contract, Makes Stunning Offer to Return to PGA Tour Ahead of PGA Championship Invitation

In a dramatic turn of events, former world number one and two-time major champion Dustin Johnson has reportedly terminated his contract with LIV Golf. This decision comes as he receives a special invitation to compete in the 2025 PGA Championship, scheduled from May 15–18 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Johnson’s departure from LIV Golf marks a significant shift in his career. While details surrounding his exit remain under wraps, sources suggest that internal tensions, changes in LIV’s leadership, and a growing interest in reuniting with the PGA Tour played a role in his decision.

What has truly stunned the golfing community is Johnson’s announcement of a remarkable offer to return to the PGA Tour. According to insiders, Johnson is willing to forgo some of the lucrative financial benefits that came with his LIV contract, instead pledging to make a significant contribution to the growth and modernization of the PGA Tour. He has proposed an idea for a “unified golf future” that would combine the best aspects of both tours, from LIV’s innovative tournament formats to the PGA’s long-standing prestige.

The PGA of America exercised its right to invite additional players to the PGA Championship, extending an invitation to Johnson. He will join 15 other LIV Golf players in the 156-player PGA Championship field, including notable names like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka.

Johnson’s recent performance has been modest, with two top-10 finishes in seven LIV events this season and a missed cut at the recent Masters. His inclusion in the PGA Championship field has sparked mixed reactions among golf fans, with some applauding the decision and others questioning his current form.

The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow will be a significant event for Johnson, who previously finished as runner-up at the tournament in 2019 and 2020. As he prepares to return to a major PGA Tour event, all eyes will be on Johnson to see if he can recapture the form that once made him the top-ranked golfer in the world.

As the golf world watches closely, Johnson’s return to the PGA Tour and the upcoming PGA Championship promise to be pivotal moments in his career and the ongoing narrative of professional golf’s evolving landscape.
