Jos Verstappen message to FIA steward Herbert after Max Verstappen penalties

Jos Verstappen believes Johnny Herbert shouldn’t be talking to the media while being an FIA steward. Max Verstappen’s dad is responding to the comments Herbert made which gave his views on the Formula 1 World Championship and saw him explain the stewards decision to penalise Verstappen during the Mexican Grand Prix.

Jos Verstappen – “He has to this (DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY) because the car is not good enough, and he is doing everything he can to win the title. But Max is not going to change his driving style because there were a few stewards present now who are not comfortable with him anyway.”

Last week in Mexico, Verstappen – with Herbert as steward – received two ten-second penalties. The former British F1 driver is also a steward during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, explained his process to the media earlier in the week. Speaking in Brazil, Verstappen addressed Herbert.

“I thought Max went too far the second time in Mexico as well,” Verstappen revealed to Viaplay. “I think he feels the same now. I can also just say that honestly to him. I think you have to be open and honest,” said Verstappen, who then started talking about Herbert.

“I think a steward should not talk to the press at all and do a constant job. And that is definitely not the case now,” concluded Verstappen senior.
