George Russell was left clutching his ribs in pain after a high-speed crash during practice at the Mexican Grand Prix.
The Brit lost control of his Mercedes a little over 20 minutes into the second session of the day on Friday and smashed into a Tecpro barrier. The session was immediately red-flagged and the force of the impact saw the medical car immediately deployed.
Track personnel rushed to fix the barrier that had been damaged after the stricken car was lifted off the circuit. After a delay of around 25 minutes while that work was carried out, the extended FP2 session, which doubles as a tyre test for suppliers Pirelli, was able to resume.
Russell wasn’t the only one who did not have the session he would have wanted. Max Verstappencomplained about a noise he could hear from the engine in his Red Bull and, after initially being told to stay out on track, soon after headed back to the pits.
Mechanics soon got to work on his car and seemed to have found an issue as it was not long until the Dutchman was out of the car and at the back of the garage. He was missing out on valuable track time while his rivals were putting useful laps in.
