Ted Scott, the trusted caddie of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, has finally spoken out regarding his absence from Scheffler’s side at this week’s BMW Championship. The news of Scheffler using a fill-in caddie had sparked curiosity among fans, with many wondering why one of golf’s most successful player-caddie partnerships would be temporarily separated during the high-stakes FedEx Cup Playoffs.
In a brief but heartfelt statement, Scott explained that his decision to step away was due to personal reasons that required his full attention. “Sometimes life off the course has to come first,” Scott said. “I’m incredibly grateful for Scottie’s understanding and support, and I have no doubt he’ll continue to play at the highest level this week. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Scott’s absence is notable given the duo’s remarkable record since teaming up in late 2021. Together, they have captured multiple PGA Tour titles, including The Masters, and have been a dominant force on leaderboards worldwide.
Scheffler, for his part, expressed unwavering support for Scott. “Ted’s more than just my caddie — he’s a great friend. I want him to take all the time he needs, and we’ll pick up right where we left off when he’s ready,” Scheffler shared in a media interview earlier this week.
While Scott focuses on matters away from golf, Scheffler will rely on a fill-in caddie for the BMW Championship as he continues his pursuit of the FedEx Cup. Fans and fellow players alike are looking forward to Scott’s return, knowing the unique chemistry he shares with Scheffler is an asset few teams on tour can match.
Scott closed his statement with optimism: “I can’t wait to be back out there walking the fairways with Scottie. For now, I’ll be cheering him on from afar.”
