Tiger Woods’s apparel brand, Sun Day Red, is currently facing legal challenges concerning its logo design. On January 2, 2025, Puma filed a notice of opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, asserting that Sun Day Red’s leaping tiger logo closely resembles Puma’s iconic “Leaping Cat” emblem, which has been in use since 1969.
Tiger Woods Breaks Silence After Puma Lawsuit Over Sun Day Red Logo
Puma contends that the similarity between the two logos could lead to consumer confusion, especially given the overlapping markets in sports apparel.
This is not the first trademark dispute for Sun Day Red. In September 2024, Tigeraire, a company specializing in cooling products for athletes, filed a notice of opposition, alleging that Sun Day Red had “unlawfully hijacked” its registered design.
Tigeraire claimed that the similarities between the logos could mislead consumers and infringe upon its established brand identity.
Despite these legal challenges, TaylorMade, the company collaborating with Woods on the Sun Day Red brand, has expressed confidence in their trademarks and logos. A TaylorMade representative stated, “We feel very confident in our trademarks and logos.”
As of now, Tiger Woods has not publicly commented on the ongoing legal disputes.
The outcomes of these cases could have significant implications for the branding and marketing strategies of Sun Day Red as it seeks to establish its presence in the competitive sports apparel market.
