5 golfers who underperformed in the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship ft. Rory McIlroy
The 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship concluded with Tyrrell Hatton claiming his third career title at the event. He shot a 2-under 70 to finish at 24-under, securing a one-shot victory over Nicolas Colsaerts.
While several players exceeded expectations at St. Andrews, there were also notable names who failed to perform up to expectations. In this article, we will highlight five golfers who underperformed at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
5 golfers who underperformed in the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
1) Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy entered the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as a tournament favorite. Despite shooting all four rounds under 70, he only finished at T25.
This is the first time on the DP World Tour this season, that the Northern Irishman has finished outside the top 2. He has had one win and three runner-up finishes on the European Tour this year.
2) Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka was expected to perform well at the Old Course, which he calls his favorite golf course. Although he tied for 10th at 17-under, this was an underwhelming performance considering he was one of the favorites.
3) Talor Gooch
Talor Gooch was one of the biggest disappointments this week. The LIV golfer failed to make the cut after shooting 67, 74, and 67 over the three days at St. Andrews.
4) Billy Horschel
Billy Horschel entered the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship fresh off a win at the BMW PGA Championship a couple of weeks ago. However, he couldn’t replicate that success here, finishing with an aggregate score of 8-under after three rounds.
Although it was a disappointing week for Horschel, he has already secured two professional titles this season and is back in the top 20 of the OWGR.
5) Matt Fitzpatrick

Matt Fitzpatrick came into the week as the defending champion but failed to replicate last year’s performance. He finished at 8-under after 54 holes, missing the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Unlike last season, this year has been underwhelming for Fitzpatrick, with just three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour and none on the DP World Tour.
