Tiger Woods announced he ruptured his achilles during his ramp up in training. The 15-time major champion was gearing up for, likely, a limited 2025 schedule that would include major tournaments.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods said in a statement. “This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.”
Woods’ doctor also released a statement. The golfing legend is expected to make a full recovery.
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” Dr. Stucken said.
Woods, 49, has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career but has been able to recovery and return to form, usually. But since 2021, when Woods was hospitalized after a single car collision where he suffered compound fractures in each leg, age and injuries have seriously caught up.
“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab,” Woods said. “Thank you for all the support.”
Woods also recently discussed the state of professional golf while on set with CBS Sports this evening in San Diego. He expressed optimism in the direction in which they’re heading, especially with one meeting in the books and another to come with President Trump.
“I think we’re in a very positive place right now,” Woods said. “We had a meeting with the president. Unfortunately, I had some other circumstances that, that came up. But Jay (Monahan), Adam (Scott) – they did great during the meeting. We have another subsequent meeting coming up so I think that things are going to heal quickly. We’re going to get this game going in the right direction. It’s been headed the wrong direction for a number of years.”
Golf is trying to come back together again following a separation the past few years between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. That has split the field of where the world’s best golfers are all playing right now with two separate leagues.
However, President Trump is now part of those negotiations between the PGA and the Public Investment Fund in Saudi Arabia in hopes of them coming to an agreement after a year and a half of work. Again, this is all about bringing the best names in golf back to the same course someday soon.
