Amid the alleged cheating controversy, a new video was shared on social media showing Bernhard Langer’s putt at the 2024 PNC Championship. The video is from a different angle than the previous one and offers a different stance on the anchoring debate.
On Sunday, December 22, Bernhard Langer and his son Jason won the PNC Championship in a playoff hole against Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods. While this was a historic moment for Langer, as he became the winningest player at the event, many accused him of cheating and anchoring his putt.
On Monday, December 23, Ricks Golfs posted a video of Langer’s putt on X. Here’s the clip:
“Wow. This vid was just sent to me. I won’t comment. You guys tell me what you see,” he wrote.
As per USGA Rule 10.1, players are prohibited from anchoring the club during a stroke. This means that players should keep the putter grip away from the chest and stomach and should only touch the forearm.
Bernhard Langer reflects on his return from the injury
Bernhard Langer celebrates after hitting the winning putt in a playoff hole to win the PNC Championship
Earlier this season, Bernhard Langer suffered from an Achilles heel injury and then made a great return by winning the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the season-ending tournament on the Senior Tour.
During the winner’s press conference of the PNC Championship, the German veteran reflected on his season
“It was a tough year,” he said. “I never had a severe injury like that, and I was laid off for three months. Couldn’t even walk. Couldn’t stand properly. And just the first few weeks were pretty grim.”
“But was able to recover and then actually get out on the course pretty quickly. Three months later, I was playing competitive golf, and I’m a functioning golfer. I haven’t recovered fully. Walking is still difficult. I walked the last two days but it wasn’t much fun. The back nine, I could feel it.”
Langer said he was hopeful for further improvement in the coming years and planned not to use a cart on Tour next season.
Langer has won 125 professional titles, 47 of which have come on the PGA Tour Champions. This season, he played in sixteen events and secured eight top-10 finishes. With one win, he finished seventh in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. This was the 18th straight season in which he won at least one professional title.
