Hojgaard began the final round of the Irish Open three shots behind 54-hole leader Rory McIlroy. However, the Dane took advantage of the Northern Irishman’s poor performance to overtake him on the back nine.
Hojgaard birdied his final three holes to move two shots clear of McIlroy. The Northern Irishman had a 10-foot putt on the 18th green that could have forced a playoff, but unfortunately, it missed the mark. As a result, McIlroy settled for a share of second place.
This marked Hojgaard’s fifth win on the DP World Tour and his first since the 2023 Made in Himmerland. In 2023, he narrowly missed out on securing his PGA Tour card, falling just short of joining his twin brother, Nicolai, who is already established on the American circuit
