Billy Horschel barely sneaked into a three-way playoff after a birdie on the 17th and 18th holes of the fourth round. In the 2-hole playoff, he went birdie – eagle to beat Thriston Lawrence and Rory McIlroy and win the BMW PGA Championship.
After his victory, Horschel credited his putting as the fundamental weapon that led him to victory (via ASAP Sports):
“Yeah, the putter has been good. I feel I’m one of the best putters in the world. Once I start seeing one or two go in, it start fueling my confidence even more and I had to rely on it.”
“Because like I said I didn’t stripe it or strike it as well as I would have wanted. I had to make a lot of 20-footers for birdies everything. But it bailed me out when I needed it.”
Rory McIlroy finished runner-up for the second week in a row on the DP World Tour (Irish Open, BMW PGA Championship). However, the Northern Irishman leads the Race to Dubai by more than 1,500 points from fellow runner-up Thriston Lawrence.
